Our time in the Azores has been filled with incredible experiences, and our final full day was no exception. Some of our team set out on an early morning adventure, heading up Monte Brasil for a scenic hike. Getting to the trailhead was an adventure in itself as we found ourselves lost for a bit before making our way past a military fort and onto the right path. The two-hour trek took us through lush greenery and views of the four peaks surrounding its crater: Pico das Cruzinhas, Pico do Facho, Pico da Quebrada, and Pico do Zimbreiro. The team arrived at the top to breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and one of the volcanoes. At the summit, we were surprised to find a cat sanctuary, along with a few chickens wandering around as well.

A local TV news crew arrived at the base of the mountain and was eager to hear about our journey. They interviewed Dr. Luskay, along with Ryan and Sam, capturing a piece of our experience to share with the community.  Afterward, the team stopped at a restaurant by the docks, Marina Grill, for a well-deserved lunch.

While part of the team was tackling the hike, the rest of the crew took a more laid-back approach to the day. They explored the town, capturing photos of the charming streets and grabbing a leisurely brunch. Later, some of us couldn’t resist stopping for ice cream, bumping into the hike team before heading to the beach for one last dip in the Atlantic. The water was refreshingly cold, but that didn’t stop us from fully embracing the moment.

On the beach, we met  Sergio, a local, who readily joined our group. He lent us his soccer ball and refereed our impromptu match on the sand. It was a perfect travel moment, highlighting the magic of connecting with people.

As the sun began to set, we made our way back to the hotel for our final dinner together in the Azores. We reminisced about the incredible experiences we shared, from the intense production days to the camaraderie we have built over the week. This journey has been filled with challenges, laughter, and unforgettable memories, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
