On Tuesday, April 15th, the long-awaited poster for Harmony of the Azores was finally made public after weeks of revision and editing. From the documentary’s conception, ideas of the poster were bounced around with a variety of questions attached. Although the team was seeking pristine video and audio for the documentary while shooting in the Azores, quality stills were also a priority.
It may seem simple to make a poster, but it was important for all members to pitch their ideas and approach strategically. Weighing what pictures would be most accurate to the story and telling the film’s subject, along with creative elements including the shot composition, font type, and editing aesthetics, were integral.
Kat Brennan, senior communications major, took the lead on editing the poster, working with another team member, Gia Matos Ovalles, to complete mock-ups using Photoshop and drafting multiple versions to pass by producer Dr. Luskay to gain approval. As a two-time PaceDocs alumnus, Kat also designed the poster for last year’s project, The Cooper: Crafting the Soul of the Cask, and has had a heavy role in providing creative input and working on the opening sequence of the project.
As the poster is finalized, it has been uploaded to PaceDocs’ socials and attached to external marketing campaigns to accompany the recently released trailer. The poster will digitally advertise our impending completion of the project and also in print, as it will be displayed at the Jacob Burns Film Center ahead of our May 5th premiere.
Tickets for the US premiere have gone live and can be found at the Jacob Burns Website or via PaceDocs EventBrite. An Azores premiere is on May 19th at Centro Cultural e de Congressos de Angra do Heroísmo on Terceira.
